Match Review : Royals Win With Ease!

It was touted even before the match that the Deccan Chargers have never won at home! The jinx continued with a defeat against Rajasthan Royals, who seemed to be at ease.

Indian Premier League 2011
Match 2, April 9
Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, India

Toss : Rajasthan Royals won the toss and chose to field first.

1st Innings

Rajasthan Royals  started off with chaos in the fielding with wild throws! Dhawan got to a blazing start though with a quickie. But nonetheless to say thereafter Royals settled pretty well with break from Amith Singh with the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan (24) in the 5th over.

It was a disappointing performance from the master class-man Sangakkara, as he was sent back to the pavilion within short notice. Trivedi showed great potential by bagging 2 important wickets early in the innings. Then it was the turn of Shane Warne – who brought magic with 2 clean wickets in his spell.

Deccan Chargers were down by 5 with 77runs on board by the end of 13th over as their batting order collapsed real fast! Thereon there was no recovery for the Chargers, as they closed the innings with 137/8 with the top scorers being Ravi Teja (28) and Christian (26).

2nd Innings

The batting for the Royals went ahead with the openers Amit and Dravid. They were in for a slow start, until Amit (20) was sent to pavilion by Steyn with a brilliant catch from Sangakkara. Then came Botha who partnering with Dravid played some sensible cricket. But still they were lagging behind in runs.

Royals were 77/1 at the end of 12th over. To reckon, Chargers bowling was kept tight all through the game. But Royals kept the scoreboard ticking with occasional boundaries. Wickets came tumbling with Dravid (28) dismissed, as Steyn struck again in the 13th over.

In came the danger-man  Ross Taylor (21*), who along with Botha (67*) notched up quick runs before they finished the game for the Royals with seven deliveries to spare! Both the Owner (Shilpa Shetty) and the players of Rajasthan Royals were ecstatic with their first win!

Result : DC 137/8 (20.0 overs)
  RR 141/2 (18.5 overs)
Rajasthan Royals won by 8 wickets.
Man Of The Match : Siddarth Trivedi (3/15) (Rajasthan Royals)
